Seattle Wants Drone Regulations

Seattle leaders are concerned about the privacy of residents when drones are not regulated in the city. Seattle City Council members are hoping to send a message to the Federal Aviation Administration, which is in charge of the airspace.

Council members are considering passing a policy directive to spur the FAA to action. They say an aggressive drone policy would reflect what the people in Seattle want.

Currently, the city can take action against a drone if it poses a safety risk to people, through a reckless endangerment state law. Otherwise, only the FAA has authority over regulating the drones. The drones are relatively unregulated. As video footage from drones are getting popular on the Internet, officials say the laws and regulations need to keep up with the new technology. The main issue seems to be health and safety concerns, both known and unknown, for the population.
