Tacoma Youth Shelter

Officials in Tacoma and Pierce County are working together to open a Youth and Young Adult Crisis Center and Emergency Shelter.  Partners in the project are now looking for a site for the future center that will hopefully begin construction in the next few months.

The youth and young adult population is especially vulnerable because of their need to continue and complete their education.  Officials say many homeless youth end up couch-surfing and moving around, which hurts their ability to get the education they need.  A recent study showed about 500 youth and young adults are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in the area.

The group Community Youth Services will operate the future center.  Now plans are being made to raise the funds needed to eventually purchase the site.
